Outside your window
I am finding that I have a lot more time now to look out of the window, and I can see the pairs of birds coming down to the feeder. I know we have at least a blue tit and a blackbird nest in the garden, but I'm hoping there are more.
This morning I walked down to the shore for exercise and watched a skylark singing as it soared overhead. It's odd to think that the virus will not affect them, and the birds are continuing life as usual.
I've created a quiz for you. Name the birds! Submit your answers by any method.
I had a go with a grapefruit. I used a darning needle to thread the string through the holes. I filled one with birdseed in melted fat, and the other just with loose seed. They have been out a while, but not attracted many birds.
However, If you don't have half an orange, you could make a feeder from anything else you have, maybe the bottom of a milk carton. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest and RSPB sites too. If you don't have wild bird food, try the old style of bird food - bread and biscuit crumbs, bacon rind and plain (NOT SALTED) peanuts.
If you make one, let's see a photo, and then keep watch to see if any birds come and dine.
Here's mine, and a photo of a Double Overhand Knot which is useful to tie the strings together. (also useful to tie up skipping ropes and tent guy lines)
