HOLIDAY GUIDES
Activities funded by a grant from the Police Property Act fund, part of the Community Fund for Merseyside.
We invited girls who've left during the year, girls on our waiting list, and the waiting lists of nearby units who won't be offered a place in September.
Holidays began with camp, for which the girls chose a Harry Potter theme. Accordingly we set off with our broomstick, Sorting Hat and Gryffindor Sword. The leaders had been to Diagon Alley to purchase all sorts of wizarding items, including a snitch. Pictures show Potions, Ready Steady Cook, Archery, Cauldron Cake, Herbology, transfiguration and the winning house - Gryffindor! Also in the Programme were Quidditch, visiting Gringotts, Defence against the Dark Arts, and a camp fire. 8 girls have earned Camper badges, and 4 also completed a Traditions of Guiding Badge. |

Following time to recover after camp, ( and the unwanted rave/band practice to which we were subjected bewteen 2 am and 4:30am by someone in the neighbourhood) we embarked upon the second phase.
This included Personal Safety Awareness, thinking about how to reduce the risks as we enjoyed a wide variety of challenges.
Beginning with crafts, we then travelled by public transport to play on the Mini Golf in New Brighton. The next morning we headed for the ice rink and enjoyed learning or improving on a largely empty rink.
After lunch we welcomed 'Celtic Roots' who came to hold a traditional style Ceilidh, where everyone learned dances, simple tunes on a variety of musical instruments and sang.

2 weeks later another group of girls met to continue the fun.
We tied up T shirts, then put them in buckets of bright green dye.
With a bit of kitchen magic, the girls conjured up 'pao de queso', a Brazilian Cheese bread. One of the challenges for these 2 days is to learn 10 words in Brazilian Portuguese, so that's 2 to start with.
Following lunch we walked to Hoylake, following OS maps and thinking about how to keep safe near roads, the level crossing, and on paths across the countryside.

We had a good time at The Potting Shed, painting our choice of ceramics.
You can see the finished items here as well. |
