2012
Diamond Jubilee
![Picture](/uploads/4/0/9/1/4091984/6644881.jpg)
At the start of the year we tried some challenges linked to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. There were physical ones, thinking ones and learning the National Anthem. Did you know that Queen Elizabeth 2 is the Queen of 16 countries?
We are all wore this badge on our uniforms for 2012.

Cookery Challenge
A cookery competition was organised by 2 BP guides and each patrol was challenged to make a pasta salad.
First Aid
One of our BP GUides has been learning first aid and decided to organise a whole evening so that everyone could learn some too.
World Thinking Day
A few Guides joined the Rainbows and Brownies at the District Thinking Day event. We made jewellery and Japanese Dolls from old magazines and wrapping paper, followed by wind socks from plastic bags. This was because the 2012 theme is saving the planet. We also learned a little about the 5 focus countries. Lots of the Guides had collected or earned some money for the fund. Our Rainbow leader has a lot of pennies to count!
Gang Show
2 of our girls were in the cast of the West Wirral Scout and Guide Gang Show at Easter. The performances went well and showed how much practice everyone had put in. They learned a great deal and had lots of fun.
Beach Party
The Elephant patrol organised a party for their Go For It. There were fruit juice cocktails, beach volleyball and limbo dancing. (all indoors!)
Well done girls!

Day Camp

We held a practice camp, just for a day, on 28th April.
Outdoor cookery, tent pitching, making tin can lanterns, an expedition to the woods, games and decorating their own camp mugs kept everyone busy through the day. In the evening, those who could stay on lit a camp fire and sang some songs, followed (of course) by toasting marshmallows.

The Queen's Diamond JubileeWe joined the rest of the district for an afternoon of Jubilee themed activities. These included making crowns, and mini boats to sail on the Thames, icing cakes and playing corgi and horse racing games. There was party tea, and then everyone put on their crowns for a photo.

Community Action
June We helped out at the Church Family Fun Day, with craft activities for younger children, and helping on the stalls.
On Your Marks
‘On Your Marks’ is the activity pack about the sports, culture and values of the Olympics. Girls have produced an inspiration wall; designed sports kits and obstacle courses; cooked healthy dishes; run races, and tried exercises to relax and focus. The street theatre week saw the girls learning circus skills and creating their own dances. Rain has not dimmed our spirits, and praise is due to the girls who had organised a Mini- Olympics in the park, but managed to re-plan rapidly when the heavens opened. Everyone who has attended most of the meetings has gained at least one of the badges.
CanoeingJuly. It was dry, but cold and windy, and to start with everyone kept being blown back into shore. Eventually though, we all learned to paddle hard enough to escape. 4 girls made their Promise whilst balancing, standing up, in their canoes. We are lucky to live so near the Marine Lake and hope to do more canoeing soon.

Summer Camp

Our theme was 'At the Movies'
We were lucky with the weather and had a relaxed camp with a choice of challenges based on movie genres. A team carried Indiana Jones's equipment along the bouldering wall, another tried standing on a shrinking iceberg. Everyone cooked on a hike fire, and joined in the camp fire. Some made alien masks, identified trees, or hunted for Pirate treasure, and practised camping skills. On Sunday all the girls had an archery session (to audition for a Robin Hood film). They earned Camper Badges, and our unit camp neckerchiefs.
The highlight was that we shared the site with a Swallow family. If one stood very still, the mother swallow would return to feed the fledgelings who poked their heads out of the nest and opened their beaks wide.

Autumn term
This term began with the older Guides running activities towards their Baden Powell Challenge Awards.
Patrols have tried out recipes, learned about Fair Trade, gained Agility badges with the help of a Basketball Coach, and one is planning a Cinema trip.
One of the guides brought Neil to talk about disabilities. The Guides tried activities whilst blindfolded, and heard about successful celebrities who have overcome disabilities.
We've also enjoyed some more activities from 'On Your Marks' such as a Race for the Rings, and a Values Auction.

Big Gig
We went to the Big Gig in Sheffield! We sat (stood) high up and watched JLS leaping about the stage, followed by a host of spots from artists including Cover Drive, Little Mix and Connor Maynard.
Winter Community Action
At the end of November some of the Guides were able to help out at the Victorian Fair in the Church. At the end of term we joined 2nd West Kirby Guides to sing carols on the wards at Arrowe Park Hospital.
Christmas
We took part in the District Social Evening with the Brownies, Rainbows and their parents. We had fun learning, 'Twas the Night before Christmas' and joining in Christmas songs with everyone.
