What we did in 2010!
Christmas
This Christmas we went to the Hospital to sing carols on the wards. Afterwards we walked to MacDonalds.
We held a Christmas party on the last evening. Unfortunately the outside temperature was about -6C and all the water in the pipes was frozen. This didn't stop us and we warmed up with games and dancing.

Badges
Some girls are working for their Hobbies or Sports badge. They have each given a talk to the unit about their hobby or sport. These included swimming, horseriding, dancing and playing the flute. 2 girls have completed their Community Action by helping at Brownies for 2 terms. We have also awarded 2 Confectioner badges and a Healthy living badge. Finally another Performing Arts badge was awarded to a Guide who took part in a professional pantomime in the Empire Theatre in Liverpool.
Thailand
We have 2 girls working towards their BP Challenge and they ran an evening based on the Thai festival of Loy Krathong for us.
Party Time
A few guides organised a Halloween party with plenty of decorations, traditional games and food. They did such a great job that they all earned their Party Planner Badges.
Vision
The National Finale was planned for 20th October, and so, on a damp evening in the gathering dusk a coach left Newton, bound for the County event in Birkenhead Park. Everyone had lanterns which had been made in previous weeks, and we joined thousands of others in a lantern parade which encircled the park. Eventually we arrived in front of a giant screen and stage. We watched a short film about Centenary events around the country, and counted down 10 minutes from 8pm. Thus at 20:10, 20/10, 2010 we were all ready to join with our sisters across the country in renewing our Promise. 4 ½ thousand voices reciting our Promise at the same time was very loud! A little dancing and singing followed as we waited for the Grand Fireworks Display. It was well worth the wait, as colourful bursts of light filled the sky. Almost all of the guides attended this event and we hope that in later years they will be able to say, ‘I was there’.
Fusion
Some of us visited Harewood House for Fusion! We saw all sorts of performing arts and met Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world.
Guidefest -the Centenary County Camp
A week in Willaston, with opportunities to learn all sorts of things such as african drumming, archery, astronomy, bushcraft, circus skills, climbing, paddleboarding and mosaic work. Plus a visit to the Heritage Exhibition, try some old style skills, and earn an exclusive 'Go Back' badge.
Weekend Camp - A World Cruise in a weekend!
One sunny weekend in July we packed our bags and headed for Hadlow Fields. We took 4 brownies with us too. We began in New York with hot dogs, then made friendship sticks.
The following day saw us visiting a variety of countries with a challenge in each one, including making worry dolls, blindfold trekking through the Amazon, cooking on hike fires and learning the Maori Sticks game. In the evening we joined Birkenhead Guides for a camp fire. On Sunday we made edible bugs from chocolate before we rushed to take all the tents down before the rain started. We didn't manage to visit all the countries we'd planned, but the Brownies earned their camper and World traveller badges, and some of the guides earned Camper badges and Camp Neckerchiefs.

Chester Zoo
We joined the County Party at the Zoo in May. Those who attended now have neckerchiefs with flashing lights and an Elephant Challenge badge. 3 of the girls made their promises in front of their favourite animals: the okapi (who turned his back on us!), the jaguar (just visible through the bushes), and the red panda (sitting high in a tree above us). Face painting was on offer, so although guides went, they returned as tigers!
Gang Show
One of the Guides took part in the Gang Show over Easter. The show was a great success and she's earned her Performing Arts Badge.
Sleepover
The sleepover was held in our HQ. As well as cooking our own meal, we watched a DVD, made chocolate nest cakes and had a midnight feast, designed a new top to wear at guides and tasted flavoured waters.
We earned plenty of points for our Adventure 100 challenge.
It was pretty chilly during the night, but there are requests for another one.
