2011 Activities
The Right to Be Me.
This is the unit project for the spring term. Activities such as finding out more about each other and what makes us individuals are included. Now we've made thank you cards for those who have helped to build our character.
Pancakes
We invited friends to join us on pancake evening (well the day before). The teams had to complete assorted challenges to earn the pan, stove and utensils. Then they had a go at cooking the pancakes. Some worked, some didn't. We should have another go at cooking and see if we can do better next time.
Cooperative games
These are games where you have to work together to achieve something, whether its passing a balloon with your feet or creating shapes without talking. With some parachute activities thrown in we had a fun evening thanks to the BP girls who organised it all.
Spring Term Go For Its
Teamwork, Experiment and With a Splash.
Experimenting with bright pink slime looked fun, but everyone went home with pink hands too!
We discovered that its not possible to cut a plastic bottle in half lengthways with a pair of scissors (to make a boat.)
Its a lot more challenging to create a game for the unit to play than you think.

Royal Wedding Party
Day Camp
We joined other guides from our division at the county camp site for a day. Activities included lighting a fire with flint and steel, cooking smores, blindfold agility, games, trails, a sausage sizzle and, of course, a camp fire.
Flower Festival

A massive effort by Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Leaders in the District produced a display for the Church Flower Festival. We were challenged to represent a movie and we chose 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe'. Guides grew alyssum (white flowers). The display was much admired by everyone who saw it.

As it happens, community allotments. We went to visit on a very wet evening. Although we cut our visit short when the rain really started in earnest, we had seen a huge variety of food plants being grown.
Great News!Early in July two guides from 1st Grange went to take part in the County Outdoor Cooking Competition.
They returned with the trophy! Congratulations Girls! Watch this space for a photo of the cup. |

Summer Camp

The theme was 'Glee'.
Plenty of activities, including hike cooking, treasure hunt, a wide game to find the missing sheet music, and archery kept everyone busy on a sunny weekend. All of the guides earned their camper badge, and a number earned their Newton Camp Neckerchief.
Everyone was able to challenge themselves to try new things and to practise perseverance.

A Grand Day Out in Blackpool

8000 members of Girlguiding arrived at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. We enjoyed rides, an Ice Show, and a dance workshop. Later in the day we turned into a flashmob to dance the Cha Cha Slide and take the world record (we think). One Guide made her promise on the Pepsi Max. We even had a chance to see some of the illuminations from the coach before we headed for home.
Have your Say!

We've been working on 'The Right To Be Heard' Badges. So when some ladies from the council offered to come and listen to what the Guides thought about their neighbourhood, and what they'd like to see in the future, we welcomed them in. The Guides had lots of ideas, and we are waiting to see how their ideas fit into the new neighbourhood plan.
Neon Night
A few girls joined other guides from the county at a special evening at the campsite. Following a Neon trail in the dark, making lanterns, and singing around the campfire were some of the activities. One of the guides made her promise around the camp fire too.
Community Action at Christmas
At Christmas some of the guides went to sing carols on the wards at the local hospital. this is always much appreciated by patients as they often join in, or request a favourite.
We made an unusual Christmas tree for the Church Festival. Small groups of guides decorated a cone each in their choice of colour and sparkles. The cones were then layered to produce 1 tree. Who says a Christmas tree has to be green and spiky? The older guides also read the prayers at the tree service.
Our third activity was to join with the Rainbows (well one of them) and the Brownies to invite all our families to a social evening. With refreshments, entertainment and a tombola we all enjoyed the evening.
