What we did in 2013
Spring Party
Organised by the Dragonfly patrol. Home made decorations, games, an Easter Egg hunt, and a sumptuous buffet earned everyone in the patrol a Party Planner Badge.
April Day Camp
Mums were invited to join their daughters at a day camp at our County Camp Site. The theme was Native American Culture. The sun shone and everyone joined in with a variety of activities. We pitched a Tipi, cooked lunch on a hike fire, followed a secret trail and made friendship sticks and talking sticks. After sharing our Camp Stew, We sat around the Camp fire and sang songs as the sun went down. Shall we do this again next year?

WELLIES and WRISTBANDS
A fantastic festival weekend in the grounds of Waddow Hall. Live Pop music, adventurous activities, arts and crafts, dance workshops and even hot tubs whilst looking out at the surrounding hills.
Keeping fit
At the request of the PLs we included some fitness sessions in our activities.
Kathy came to run a zumba session which was good fun, - event the leaders had a go!
We went jogging in the park, although it was dark so we think some girls cut the corners a bit...
We went for a walk in the woods one dark evening. No ghosts or other terrifying creatures were encountered. In fact the Guides made so much noise everything in the area probably fled.

July Meetings
Evening Ramble. On a lovely summer evening we wandered through Newton and Grange mixing tree identification with some local history. We finished at the War Memorial with its splendid views across to Wales and Blackpool. Our End-of-Term meeting was held on the beach. Some sand sculpting was done, but most of the evening was spent fishing for crabs. This year large numbers were caught; the prize for the biggest one went to Niamh. 2 girls and Cathy, our Leader in Training, made their Promise as the sun set behind Hilbre. |

No electricity
Can you survive an evening with no electricity?
Yes we can!
In previous weeks we had decorated glass jars and on the night we lit candles in them and placed them around the room.
Phones etc were put away and we ran our meeting in the dimmer light. We'd hoped to make cocoa on a wood fire outdoors, but the fireplace was underwater due to the previous rainy days. Fortunately we have camping gas stoves, so we were still able to make the cocoa without electricity.
In addition everyone had the chance to demonstrate they could remember health and safety rules by using sparklers.
A the end, some of the girls said that they had found it really difficult to do without their phones for an hour and a half. But it can be done if its necessary.

Helping out
Taking part in community events boost the Social Capital of the Village - or so the scientists say.
We helped by turning up at the Church Fair in November where girls sold white elephants, cheered the children on the Teddy Tombola, and helped out with the children's craft activities.
We've taken part in the District Social Evening with our Rainbows, Brownies and Senior Section, which included learning 'The Christmas Alphabet' in Makaton.
Our third activity was carol singing at the local hospital. We joined two other Guide units to sing our way up and down the wards.
