World Thinking Day and St David's Day
2 weeks news in 1 post coming up.
on 22 Feb it was World Thinking Day. On this day, 10 million girls and young women around the world reflect on the links between us all and what we can do to make the world a better place for everyone.
The Guides and Rangers met together to try some activities to learn about ways to build peace, in our own lives and in our communities. A thoughts jar, and turning over a new leaf were some of the activities, but it was difficult to think of examples in our lives where we have seen people being treated unfairly. Towards the end of the meeting, Rainbow Penguin made her first Promise as a guide.
After looking at Promises made by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world, we enjoyed lighting our candles and then renewing our promise by candlelight. We finished by singing our traditional song about our Guiding Light.
the 1st of March is St David's Day. Everyone was asked to choose a poem to recite, and we held a mini eisteddfod. In order to make sure no-one was too nervous, we began with some activities to help calm nerves, such as exercise, relaxation exercises.
The standard was high, and poems varied, including several girls who had chosen to share poems they had written. Some of the poems were about Wales and St David's Day.
The recitation winner was Cute-Koala Owl, with runners up Hermione Koala and Illy Penguin who both recited their own poems.
Everyone who took part has earned points on the chart.
We also gave everyone the chance to talk about anything that was worrying them, and topics included returning to school next week, especially that other pupils would not stick to rules about masks etc, putting everyone at risk from Covid.
