Cooking up a storm
Things have been a bit weird this week due to the family emergency. I had to go and stay with Mum, thus breaking their quarantine, so I'm glad that I had avoided going in to any shops recently. She told me lots about her memories of the war; shifting around the country and going to lots of different schools. However, I'm back home now and thinking about cooking. I see that Pinky and Abster Penguin have been making scrumptious desserts for the family. Hedgehog says that she is planting veg in her garden, and we have some well on the way in ours. Anyone else growing food for the future? Today's challenge involves thinking about where your food comes from. Cook a meal for your family, which has an ethical aspect. Maybe you are concerned about animal welfare, perhaps you don't like the idea of chemicals on the land. Food miles increase the CO2 in the atmosphere, Palm oil is a worry, and exploiting cheap labour abroad isn't good either. Decide which cause you will support, for example: you could choose organic, or locally sourced, or Fair Trade ingredients etc. Let us know how you got on. Remember to have adult supervision and take great care with sharp tools, and anything hot. Also remember your hygiene rules before and during your cooking. I'm looking forward to seeing your meals, so do photograph them before everyone tucks in. Badge link: Ethical Consumer Interest Badge The Government advice is now to wear masks in any enclosed spaces such as shops so I hope that you are all busy with your T shirts and scissors, or your old pillow case and needle. You can see a T shirt version (thank you Pinky Penguin) and a sewn version (mine) in the photos. I thought you might also like to see how the tadpoles in my pond are growing, so I fished a few out to photograph. If you are interested in wildlife, what else can you see in the box? |
