We'll Meet Again
Next Friday will be the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, when the country celebrated because the War was over. The Country had planned to celebrate again, with Parades and Street Parties and a whole weekend of events. Of course these can't happen now, but it doesn't mean we can't celebrate, and look forward to the day, which is drawing closer, when we can meet up again.
Guiding has a rich history, and Guides played a large part in helping during the war, from the young guides who welcomed evacuees, collected paper for recycling, or fund raised for an ambulance, to the Guides who taught homeless people how to cook in the street, were employed as messengers by the Government, right up to the young women who volunteered for the Guide International Service.

On Monday, we met everyone's pets and talked about helping animals. One subject that came up was dogs who are scared by fireworks, so Pinky Penguin composed a Tweet to ask people not to set off fireworks on Thursday evenings.
Please think about pets and wildlife when you set off noisy fireworks. It may bring you 5 mins of fun, but for Jessy and others it can bring days of anxiety.

Challenges:
This weekend's challenges are in preparation for next Weekend's VE Day Celebrations.
Firstly, use your craft skills to make some bunting to decorate the front of your house. You can make it from fabric or card or paper, and decorate it in any way you choose. Stapling the pieces to a string or ribbon means you don't have to do any sewing.
Secondly, have a look for some recipes of the time, or what rations girls had. Can you plan and cook a WW2 meal on a brick fireplace next Friday? There's an example here: Rocket Stove The advantage of these stoves is that they use very little fuel, and, if you use dead, dry wood, it should make no smoke.
