Overcoming Barriers
This week at the Zoom meeting we completed the 5th Challenge for the Make Change 3 Skillbuilder Badge.
When you meet someone with a problem, and you suggest solutions, have you ever heard them make excuses, and give reasons why your solution won't work? Most of us have come across this 'negative thinking', and some of us do it ourselves (let's be honest - we all do it sometimes).
So we set out to plan a solution to a problem and look at the barriers to achieving it. After some discussion the problem of loud fireworks scaring pets was chosen. The solution is to persuade shops not to sell loud fireworks, and to persuade the public not to buy them.
Then we thought about barriers, such as: getting the message to important people, building up a group who would help, raising money to fund our campaign, how to deal with anyone who is 'mean'. sending unpleasant messages or trying to stop us. Then the fun started. We chose actual objects to represent these barriers and then built an obstacle course around our houses. Girls used things like piles of cushions, stools and chairs to climb over, beds to crawl under, things to balance along and buckets for throwing items into. it was great fun watching each other tackling these.

At the end they agreed that the important message is,
If you really want to solve a problem, keep going when you meet barriers
Congratulations to AG, Chocolate Koala Puffin and Sugar Glider Penguin who have earned the badges
For those girls who weren't at all 5 of the relevant Zoom meetings, or didn't complete a challenge after a meeting, you can see which ones you have missed on page 89 of your badge book. Send a message to Red Squirrel if you aren't sure how to complete them. (information is in various posts below)
