January
Big Birdwatch Day
We joined the Rainbows and Brownies in counting the birds which visited our HQ. We also made bird boxes, and craft birds, and had a go at quizzes and puzzles.

February
We had a music evening. Everyone brought music to share with others, to start the Music Zone badge.
Thinking day was celebrated by playing the WAGGGS game, and sharing our Guiding light.
March
An international evening run by 3 BP candidates. They chose China, Germany and France for their countries.
2 of the older guides have decided that they would like to become Young leaders. We're delighted to have them ( even if their favourite colour is black...)

April
The term finished with a Bring-a-friend Movie Night. With onesies and popcorn it was a good way to unwind at the end of term.
In the Easter holidays we held an outdoor day. The weather was good, so the girls were able to pitch a tent, cook their meals outdoors, build a rope bridge and finish with a camp fire. (with marshmallows of course!)
The first meeting back was a SPY party, with lots of games and a 'whodunnit' drama.
At the end of April we started 'Girls Matter' badge, and said what we would do if we were prime minister. Then each 'constituency' (patrol) sent a representative to the Council meeting with the ideas from their patrol members. The term has now been planned the term using as many of the girl's ideas as possible.

June
So far, we've had a cooperative games evening, unfortunately indoors because the weather was too cold and wet to go over to the park.
The Dragonfly patrol kept everyone busy for the whole meeting, and the leaders had little to do but watch the fun.
Fortunately the following week was much better weather and everyone cooked themselves something scrumptious on a fire or a stove.
The sleepover went well. The girls enjoyed the opportunity to be more independent and make decisions for themselves. They had a relaxing time, some chose to read, some helped the Brownies, but most came to the campfire for marshmallows and cocoa!

July
We'd planned to be out and about in July but were thwarted by the weather. Our ramble evening turned into an indoor drama challenge, and the first time we tried to go to the beach saw everyone indoors again creating models of beach scenes from 'found materials'. We received the news that we've been awarded a grant to run a Holiday Guides Programme, so there's lots to look forward too. Finally, at the last meeting of term we made it to a very blustery beach. The girls caught some crabs and, with the aid of a windbreak, we had BBQ sausages and End of Year prize giving. The summer's not over yet though, wait for August.... |
September and October
November
The month began with a Hallowe'en at Hogwarts evening. Everyone ( even the leaders) had turned out in splendid costumes, and some had brought additional decorations. The Sorting Hat put them ito houses and the fun began. After decorating candles, duelling with wands and ducking for apples, the Guides tucked into a feast of Monster Munches, spooky cakes and ham sandwiches, all washed down with Butterbeer.
They hunted for Hagrid's escaped animals, and tackled a quiz, based on HP and seasonal festivals.
Slytherin eventually won the House Trophy.
We helped with the Church Autumn Fair, by running a table for visitors to make simple craft items.
On Remembrance Sunday we turned out to parade to the Service at the Memorial, ( its at the top of the Hill) and then on down into town, behind the Lifeboat tractor and Inshore Rescue Boat... Fortunately it stayed dry although it was pretty chilly.

December
We prepared for the Annual Family evening where the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers bring their families to a fun evening. The Guides chose to perform a Nativity Play. The Guides wrote it, chose costumes, made props and scenery, and allocated parts to the leaders too...
A few brave souls volunteered to perform musical items. Rachael played her violin, Emma the keyboard, and Olivia and Grace sang. Big round of applause to them.
Finally all of the girls sang 'Rudolph' and 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas'.
Along with refreshments, raffle, tom bolas and a gift stall, the evening raised £300 for the District Funds.
To complete the term, the Guides gathered at the Hospital to sing carols around the wards.
